Intimate Backyard Wedding

Being a wedding photographer has its perks.  I mean, I basically get a guaranteed amazing meal (and cake!) 25 weeks in a row.  If that weren’t enough, I also get invited to be present and celebrate the best day of a couple’s lives.  Meeting and working with those couples to bring their wedding vision into fruition is by far, the best perk of the job.  Not all wedding are created equal though.  Some are large and lavish while other are small an intimate.  And while Instagram and the Kardashians may sell us on FOMO and the lavish lifestyle, I much prefer an intimate backyard wedding like Isabella an Nick had.  To be invited to one of these means I am being invited into an event shared only by the most important people in the couple’s lives. Now that, is truly an honor.

Isabella is originally from Brazil and came to America to work and an au pair while attending college.  She met Nick and quickly fell in love with his quirky sense of humor and gentle demeanor.  They got married in an intimate backyard wedding at her host family’s residence.  What I love is that the wedding was still an elegant affair and they made it their own.  (Need tips on planning your perfect wedding?  Click here.)   All of the bride and groom prep, ceremony, and reception took place on the grounds of the family home.  With the help from a caterer and florist, their backyard turned into the perfect ceremony and reception site.

Isabella’s father came all the way from Brazil to walk her down the aisle.  (her best friend even joined in the festivities via Skype!)

Keeping with the natural and intimate look of their wedding, we found a beautiful spot on nearby Oakland University’s campus to photograph their formals.
