Northern Michigan Maternity Session

A few weeks ago, I posted the maternity session of Lisa and Karl. It was a beautiful session and one of my first maternity sessions I have shot in recent years. The response I got was remarkable: my email and phone was filled with support and inquiries. However, there was one text I received that made me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. Ashley slyly congratulated me on the recent maternity session and then asked if I was willing to travel for a Northern Michigan maternity session. She followed up with a selfie of her and her bump.

I nearly died.

I was so excited for Ashley and Kyle. It felt like my heart burst and I was on the verge of tears. I have never felt joy for someone else the way I did for Ashley. Her whole life she wanted to be a mom and now her dream was coming into fruition. I answered with a string of excited and probably misspelled texts before saying “absolutely.” I knew exactly where we would be shooting her Northern Michigan maternity session too – the same place as her wedding: Nubs Nob.

Ashley and Kyle got married in the middle of a blizzard. Literally, snow was blowing sideways and guests at their outdoor ceremony had snow piling up on their clothing after sitting outdoors for twenty minutes. It didn’t matter though; Nubs Nob is their special spot and the only spot they would (and should) get married at. It was only fitting that he hiked up and photographed Ashley and Kyle’s Northern Michigan maternity session in the same location.

Towards the end of the shoot, their dogs joined us for an official family photo.

It is only fitting that these two skiers already have their daughter’s first three sets of skis tuned and ready for her to use.
