Waterfront Reception at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club
One of our favorite parts of being wedding photographers is seeing how each couple chooses to make their wedding day uniquely theirs. Lauren and Jake’s wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are: classic, elegant, family-centered, and filled with genuine emotion from beginning to end. Their day concluded with an elegant waterfront reception at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, the perfect setting to celebrate with family and friends after saying “I do” at Grosse Pointe Academy.
From the moment we arrived at Lauren’s parents’ home, we knew it was going to be a special day. There is something incredibly meaningful about getting ready for your wedding in the house where you grew up. Surrounded by family, lifelong memories, and the people who know you best, the morning felt both exciting and deeply sentimental.
Getting Ready
Lauren spent the morning getting ready at her childhood home with her closest family and friends. As the final touches came together, we captured one of the day’s most memorable moments: a first look with her father.
Watching him see Lauren in her wedding dress for the first time was a beautiful reminder of how important family is to this couple. There were smiles, tears, and a lot of laughter as everyone prepared for the day ahead.
First Look
After finishing portraits at the house, we headed to Grosse Pointe Academy where Lauren and Jake shared their first look.
One of the greatest gifts couples can give themselves on a wedding day is a few quiet moments together before the ceremony begins. The nerves quickly disappeared as they saw each other for the first time. They exchanged hugs, smiles, and a few private words before we spent some time creating portraits around the beautiful grounds.
Their excitement for the day was impossible to miss. Every interaction between them felt natural and effortless, making it easy to see why they are such a perfect match.
The Ceremony
Family and friends gathered at Grosse Pointe Academy for a heartfelt ceremony celebrating Lauren and Jake’s relationship and their commitment to one another.
The historic setting provided a timeless backdrop as they exchanged vows surrounded by the people who love them most. One of our favorite moments was watching their faces as they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. The joy, excitement, and relief of finally being married were written all over their faces.
The Celebration
Following the ceremony, everyone made their way to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club for an unforgettable reception.
Situated along the water, the yacht club offered the perfect setting for an elegant evening celebration. Guests enjoyed cocktails, heartfelt toasts, and plenty of laughter as the newlyweds were welcomed into the reception by cheering family and friends.
The rest of the evening was exactly what every couple hopes for: an incredible dance floor, meaningful speeches, and countless moments shared with the people who matter most. From the first dance to the final song, Lauren and Jake never stopped smiling. Their waterfront reception at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club was the perfect ending to an incredible wedding day, bringing together family and friends to celebrate along the shores of Lake St. Clair.
As photographers, we often say that the best weddings are not defined by the details alone, but by the people who fill the room. Lauren and Jake are surrounded by an incredible group of family and friends, and that love was evident throughout their wedding day.
