Blue Bridge Proposal, Grand Rapids
A few weeks ago, Justin emailed me asking just one question, “Do you travel for proposals?” He wanted to propose to his girlfriend Lilly in Grand Rapids, a town both of them have made many memories in during their courtship. He had a few ideas for locations; however, we ultimately decided for a Blue Bridge proposal, an iconic landmark in Grand Rapids.
I got to Grand Rapids with about 30 minutes to go before our scheduled proposal. After scouting the location, I decided on the spot Justin should propose and marked it so he could see it as he walked the bridge. Justin was smooth; he noticed people walking and lingering on the bridge, so he delayed and distracted Lilly by hanging out by the railing, observing the river as it rushed by. After a few minutes, the bridge was as clear as it was going to get. He continued his walk, stopping near the end of the bridge and talked with Lilly, hiding the ring box in his hand. When the moment presented itself, he proposed.
Excitedly, Lilly said “yes” and greeted Justin with a warm embrace.
After a few moments, Lilly spotted us photographing their proposal. It didn’t stop them from embracing and enjoying the moment.
I mentioned in my last proposal blog how there is a moment of pure joy, authentic emotions, and a slight dollop of relief from the guy proposing. It is one of my favorite moments to capture – this was that moment! Justin confidently grabbed his new fiancee’s hand and began walking towards their future. They looked so happy and excited for the life that lay in front of them.
After their Blue Bridge proposal, we walked around Grand Rapids and took images to commemorate the day.
I mean, did Grand Rapids hook me up with this backdrop or what?
As we walked around town, we stopped in their favorite coffee spot, Madcap Coffee, where they end many of their dates. Just like on wedding days, it is always important to take a little time for yourselves and let the moment sink in. I wanted them to have that moment on their engagement day as well, so I stepped outside and snapped a few shots while they enjoyed their coffee and shared stories about all that went on behind the their Blue Bridge proposal.
Justin had one last surprise planned for Lilly. Her family was waiting to help celebrate their proposal at Brown Butter, another place they visit on their date nights.
Congratulations Justin and Lilly! Thank you so much for asking us to help document such a special moment in your lives.
