I don’t think I have met someone so excited to propose as Dan. From our first phone call, he was beaming with happiness and genuine excitement to propose to his girlfriend Quinn. The plan was pretty much set in place when he called me. He was going to have a candlelight proposal during a Bach to Beatles concert at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. I told Dan that I knew the church well, both from my shooting weddings there and from getting married there myself! The idea for the candlelight proposal was straight forward and easy – bring Quinn into the aisle during the performance and ask her for her hand in marriage. The logistics behind it were a bit more complicated: where would they sit? When would he propose? What would our signal be? Would there be enough light or how could I light it without distracting the performers or guests? With the help of the organizers, we were able to get a set list and secure a time for me to sneak into the church between sets to test and dial in the light. I reserved seats for Dan and Quinn right next to where where the candlelight proposal was to happen. Dan decided on proposing during the Beatles “All You Need is Love,” which is only appropriate. As the song began to play, Dan’s candlelit silhouette could be seen leaning into to Quinn, talking to her during the song. As the last verse approached, he stood up, and brought her into the aisle. With that, I turned on my light and captured her priceless reaction.
You can watch the proposal unfold here.
After the proposal, Dan and Quinn returned to their seats and enjoyed another song before joining us near the entrance. It took Quinn several minutes to realize what just happened. Honestly, she was still in disbelief even at the end of the night. We found a little nook with candles at the entrance of the church and decided to do a mini engagement shoot. Quinn had no problem cuddling up with Dan after such a romantic gesture.
After our shoot in the church, we headed to the DIA for another round of photos. Since Dan and Quinn were all dressed up, it was the perfect spot to capture their love.
