Jeff and Alyssa’s Christmas tree farm engagement session in Dexter, MI.
When I saw Alyssa’s engagement announcement, I almost did a happy dance while sitting in my chair. (I wish I was joking, but I am not.) I was elated to see Jeff and Alyssa make the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. I bumped into them while photographing Sean and Danielle’s wedding, where we caught up in the lobby of the reception. I was so tempted to ask, “So are you two next?” but I always remember how annoying and intrusive I felt that question was when I was asked it. Three years into marriage, I have come to realize that it isn’t meant to prod or apply pressure, but rather as a compliment. When you find the right partner, marriage is awesome. It is life-enhancing. You wish other couples can share in the joy and deeper love that it brings into your own life. So I bit my tongue and quietly hoped that they too would soon tie the knot. Fast forward to Alyssa’s announcement, and the happy dance makes perfect sense.
When Alyssa contacted me to photograph their engagement session, I was totally on board. She bounced around the idea of starting in Dexter, a quaint city outside of Ann Arbor, and making part of it a Christmas tree farm engagement session. We didn’t have the fresh virgin snow, but we did have plenty of cheer.
After spending some time at the farm, we drove into Ann Arbor to photograph the rest of their engagement session at the University of Michigan, both Jeff and Alyssa’s alma mater. The hours passed but the laughs never slowed. Jeff and Alyssa were all smiles.
