Nick and Julian had a Detroit Public Library engagement session over the holiday weekend.

A few weeks ago, I had the honor of photographing Nick’s marriage proposal to Julian. It was beyond memorable. Nick was picking her and her girlfriends up from the airport, when he lagged behind and proposed right in the airport. He caught Julian and her friends completely off guard. Baggage claim #2 will never quite be the same. By the time I delivered their images a few days later, Julian had already found her dress and secured a venue for their wedding. I was honored again when they asked if I would continue to document their story. Julian and Nick will be getting married next year at Bay Harbor in Petoskey. It was an easy “yes” for me; Petoskey has a special place in Becky and I’s relationship. To celebrate with Nick and Julian at a place that is special to me, I can’t ask for much more than that!
When Julian and I started talking about her wedding, she mentioned that they needed just a few photos for their save the date. I suggested we meet for a short engagement session over the holiday weekend. While the crowds would be either shopping or sleeping in, we would have the city to ourselves. After Julian described what they would be wearing, I suggested they have a Detroit Public LIbrary engagement session. It is often overlooked as the Detroit Institute of Arts neighbor, but it provides a beautiful, clean backdrop for some classic photos. Both Julian and Nick looked great and were ready to take some photos. I knew from their proposal that they were comfortable in front of the camera; however, I didn’t know how natural they were! The whole session easy, fun, and yielded some beautiful photos.
