When Beth emailed me about shooting her Detroit Yacht Club wedding, I knew we had to work together. Between her kind personality and the way she described her then-fiance Toby, I knew it would be a beautiful wedding that was centered on the love they shared for each other. When their day came, my intuition proved to be right. Both Toby and Beth were a little nervous leading up to the ceremony, but once they saw each other, all was right in the world. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces and the details of the day just drift away as soon as they were in each other’s presence. Nothing else mattered except each other and the future they had planned. To be in that moment with them was truly an honor.

Beth and Toby started their day getting ready at the Foundation Hotel in downtown Detroit. Toby and his groomsmen were up first. Coming in from England, Toby’s dad didn’t want to miss any of the fun and joined us for the morning festivities, including some Carlsberg and football.
Once Toby and his groomsmen were done, we stopped by Beth’s room. Judging by the laughter we could hear walking down the hallway, we knew we were in for a good time. While Beth and her girls were putting on their finishing touches, we photographed her details.
After Beth was ready, we headed to the Detroit Yacht Club. Since we had some time before the ceremony, I wanted to capture a few portraits of just Beth in the beautiful space.
While we photographed Beth and her bridesmaids, Toby was waiting patiently in a different area of the Detroit Yacht Club.
As guests began to filter in a cellist welcomed guests to the ceremony. It was a fitting touch as Beth plays violin in the Detroit Opera House.
One of my favorite parts of Beth and Toby’s Detroit Yacht Club wedding ceremony was the variety of emotions on display. Everything from laughter to tears was on display.
As guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Beth and Toby took a few family formals in front of the beautiful fireplace before sneaking away for some pictures of just the newlyweds.
I mentioned earlier that both Beth and Toby were fully at ease in each other’s presence. I think Beth’s smile says it all.
As the sun began to set, we headed inside to kick off their Detroit Yacht Club wedding reception.
