Ava’s session visited several sites throughout Detroit, but her DIA senior photos really stand out.
Like so many other photo shoots, I was honored to document Ava’s senior photos for her. I have known Ava for years, remembering her fondly as the friendly little dancer who warmed your heart as she danced to later becoming the lead dancer in nearly all of Macomb Ballet Company performances. It has been a joy watching her grow up and develop into the kind, hard working, and still incredibly friendly young lady that she is today.
Ava’s senior photos started off casual in the heart of downtown. With the first click of the shutter, we were creating some beautiful senior photos.
After wrapping up near Campus Martius, we headed north to photograph some DIA senior photos. Ava glammed up and donned a beautiful dress that complimented her bronze skin.
The goal with every photo is to create a connection; an image that somehow shows a touch of personality, vulnerability, and a little bit of soul. I think this image does just that.
After capturing some beautiful images at the DIA, Ava changed into a tutu to highlight her tenure as a dancer.
With the sun setting, we headed to the shores of Belle Isle to capture one last set of photos. The sunset was a glowing haze, slowly and softly setting behind the Detroit skyline.
No session would be complete without a picture with your favorite sister. Years ago, I photographed Elise’s senior photos, where Ava helped by holding the lighting. This time, it was Elise’s turn to help. We ended the night the same way we did years ago, storytelling and catching up over some Bucharest Grille. Spending an evening with Ava and her family was a welcomed reminder that the best things in life really are the people in your life.
