A few years ago, I photographed Whitney and Jake’s wedding at the Atheneum Hotel in downtown Detroit. Spending the day with Whitney and Jake meant that I also got to spend some time with the bridal party. I remember Spencer being a presence: initially intimidating, but friendly and loyal once you got to know him. Fast forward to today and I was delighted when Emma, Spencer’s fiance, emailed me asking about my availability to shoot their Lochmoor Club wedding in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Emma had a vision for their wedding – classy and elegant, yet relaxed and welcoming. Their wedding was all that and more.
The day started off with Spencer getting ready. Spencer, a real estate agent with an appreciation for style and details, got ready at a friend’s house that complimented the look of the day. His custom made tuxedo made looking good easy.
Meanwhile, Emma was getting ready at one of my favorite hotels in Detroit – The Westin Book Cadillac. Her dress was gorgeous and the simplicity of her accessories only exemplified her beauty.
After Emma was ready, it was time to get married. Spencer and Emma held their ceremony at the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. It was my first time photographing there. Hopefully, it won’t be my last. The church is grandiose and beautiful.
After the ceremony, Emma and Spencer signed their marriage license. Spencer also surprised Emma with a beautiful gift. It’s intimate moments like these that are so important to quietly document to tell the whole story of the day and the tenderness between the couple.
After the formals were done, it was time to photograph Emma, Spencer, and their bridal party around Grosse Pointe. We started on the grounds of the church since they were so beautiful.
Photographing just the two of them reminded me of their engagement session; pure magic.
As we were getting ready to leave, Emma and Spencer’s transportation, “Hamilton” arrived: a 1941 Packard, provided by Motor City Vintage Rentals. I love working with Kymberly and John. Not only does their car elevate the photos and experience of a wedding day, but their genuine care for making their time with the couple perfect is unmatched. Truly, a luxury experience.
After leaving the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, we headed over to the Ford House for more photos.
Emma and Spencer looked so good in front of the camera, I could have stayed at the Ford House all night. However, there was a party waiting at their Lochmoor Club wedding reception. As we arrived, guests were outside enjoying cocktail hour on the veranda while the staff was putting the finishing touches on the ballroom.
After dinner, the band, Your Generation in Concert, welcomed guests into the dance area. Guests were so excited to party that they danced during their warm up set! However, once Emma and Spencer arrived, the floor cleared and they shared their first dance.
Once the floor was open, it was back to partying at their Lochmoor Club wedding reception.
