Proposal on Belle Isle – The Best Run of Their Lives

Monday, March 9th, 2020

Like most proposals, Jon’s started off with an email. He was looking to propose to his girlfriend when the weather turned nice. He wasn’t sure about where, but he knew he wanted it to be somewhere in Detroit as they have a long history of dates, memories, and runs in the city, including the Detroit Free Press Marathon. After a few emails back and forth, we had an unseasonably warm day on the horizon so we planned his proposal on Belle Isle.

Bry and Jon are both serious and competitive runners. Their first times hanging out were training for runs together. Bry hilariously told me a story of being stuck in the “high five” zone after their runs and telling her friends that it looked like she needed to run another race to spend time with Jon. Luckily, those days are long behind them.

With the help of Bry’s sister, Mysha, Jon planned a run around Belle Isle and hid the ring box in his running pouch. As they walked their cool down, Jon needed to create an excuse to stop along the shore. A few group pics later, Mysha suggested she take a photo of the two of them. As Mysha was backing up, I was getting in position knowing the proposal was about to happen. Jon hugged Bry, turned her into position, and then stepped back and proposed. Bry’s face and excitement was priceless!

This was actually one of my favorite moments of the proposal on Belle Isle; I thought it was so special that Mysha was there to not only witness the proposal, but also celebrate it with Jon and Bry. Mysha came running up after respectfully giving Jon and Bry their own time, ready to shower them with love and support.

After the proposal on Belle Isle, we stuck around for some impromptu engagement photos.

Best wishes you two! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your special moment. It truly is an honor.
