Kirby was a man on a mission. He reached out to me, letting me know that he saw Joe’s Whitney proposal on the website and was looking to do something similar. We hopped on a call and within a few minutes already had a date and time in our calendars to head down to The Whitney in Detroit to do some location scouting. Prior to our meeting at the Whitney, I sent Kirby a blog from one of my favorite weddings I shot there. It was more of a private, intimate wedding and highlighted the beauty that the Whitney has to offer. While most people think of the stain glass window as the ideal place for a Whitney proposal, Kirby was drawn to the symmetry of the outside and decided to propose there. Next, it was a week of waiting and aligning stories to convince Joanna why they needed to be dressed up for an evening at the Whitney. The challenge then became setting up the lighting for the staircase prior to their arrival. At 7:20, we sent Kirby the text “#1,” letting him know we would be going with our first option. A few minutes later, Kirby pulled in with Joanna and began walking toward the entrance of the Whitney; however, before they could get there, Kirby had a few things to say and one simple question to ask…
