A few weeks ago, I posted three photos on Instagram telling the story of John and Nicole. I was fortunate enough to be there to photograph their proposal, wedding, and now their maternity shoot. I had no idea I would get the response I would from that post. Lisa was quick to email me, “Brian! I didn’t realize you do maternity photos! We are hoping to do an Ann Arbor maternity shoot.” Anytime I get to see old friends and have a camera in my hand, especially during these covid times, I am happy to do so. After a few emails back and forth discussing looks and goals for the shoot, we decided on two locations for their Ann Arbor maternity shoot. We started our evening together at the U of M Law Quad.
It was so nice to see Lisa and Karl again. Their wedding was memorable for many reasons: we captured so many genuine moments of love and laughter and it was Becky’s first wedding full time with a camera in hand. Seeing them for the first time since their wedding was like seeing an old friend: we picked up right where we left off, telling stories and sharing laughs.
Lisa was just as radiant and beautiful today as she was on her wedding day. Her understated beauty was on full display. I wanted to create almost a painterly portrait of her to capture not only her beauty, but this time in her motherly journey.
One of the things I love about this couple is Lisa’s smile when Karl is around. It is so genuine and warm. I don’t have to do anything but wait and take the photo.
The high trees created a beautiful speckling of light for their Ann Arbor maternity shoot.
After our time in the Law Quad, we went to a nearby park to create some images of Lisa and Karl in nature.
As the sun was setting on our Ann Arbor maternity shoot, we rushed into the lake and created some of my favorite images of the year.
