Captain’s Club Grand Blanc Wedding

Lisa and Karl…I don’t even know where to begin or what to say.  I can’t think of a nicer or better couple to work with.  I feel like I say that about all of my couples, but it is true.  Most of my couples find me through word of mouth and what I have come to realize is that good people hang out with good people, so it only makes sense that I work with amazing couples.  Regardless, their day was perfect, as is their love for each other, and I think the photos capture it.

Lisa and Karl got married at the Captain’s Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan.  Anytime a couple has their prep, ceremony, and reception at the same spot, it can either be a challenging day that spurs my photographic creativity, or an incredible day where I wish I had more time to shoot.  With the beautiful grounds at the golf club, it was so easy to be inspired.

Lisa started her day quietly surrounded by her bridesmaids.  It was a relaxing morning with plenty of details to shoot.  I always try to give brides options when it comes to their photos.  I want them to play a role in the creative process.  With Lisa, I gave her two options for locations to get ready.  Her answer to this, and all questions I asked throughout the day was, “whatever you think is best.”  That is the perfect answer!  I love it when brides put 100% of their trust in my vision and expertise.  With that, Lisa got ready outside with the help of her mom and one of her maids of honor.

After she was ready, Lisa shared a first look with her dad.  It was a touching moment between the two of them and wouldn’t be the last of the day.

After Lisa had a moment with her dad, it was time to reveal herself to Karl.  Karl had been patiently waiting with anticipation to see her.

With their first look captured, it was time to tour the grounds of the Captain’s Club Grand Blanc wedding venue.

Between the club house and the lush grounds, we didn’t run out of places to shoot.

Sometimes, a simple background only heightens what the eye sees and the heart feels.

After an hour or so, Lisa and Karl were joined by their friends to help prepare for the ceremony and celebration.

You many notice something a little different in these photos, that being that the same moment is being captured from different angles.  While I was researching some new photo gear, my wife said that she was interested in shooting as well.  She has long been part of BTW Photography behind the scenes and reviews all of the images I take so it only makes sense that after a few years of staring at my work, she would naturally have a style similar to mine.  I am excited to see where the camera takes her.

The past few weddings have all offered up a moment where the bride looks at the groom and if you see it, you know exactly why they are meant for each other.  No one else looks at them like that.  That look isn’t faked, but is earned through trust, conversations, dreams, sacrifice, and love.  I feel like that look was captured here.

What is not to love about this photo?  Pure emotion.  Pure excitement for what is to come.

Lisa was so beautiful on her day, I found myself creating mini-portrait sessions throughout the day with different backgrounds to capture her grace and elegance.

While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Lisa and Karl opted to spend some alone time (with me in tow, of course).

Next, it was time to celebrate their Captain’s Club Grand Blanc wedding.

I am a sucker for a great dance photo.  When you dance with the one you love, you feel like you could live in their arms forever.

Second to the bride and groom dancing, I always wonder how the dad feels dancing with his daughter.  Even the toughest of dads show emotion and have a hard time letting go at the end of the dance.

With the formal dances done, it was time to party.

With the sun starting to set, I took Lisa and Karl outside for one last set of images.  While this is only one image from the set, I would say it was worth the break in dancing.

Normally, I finish the wedding with an end-of-the-night portfolio image.  After the sunset shot, Lisa requested one more photo – a photo of the four of us.  I was so touched by her gesture.  I felt like a guest and a friend as well as her photographer.  It was a great way to end the night and mark the first wedding that Becky shot as well.

Best wishes to you Lisa and Karl.  Thank you for allowing both of us to be a part of your Captain’s Club Grand Blanc wedding.
