One of the pieces of advice we like to give couples as they start planning their wedding is, make it your own. Make it a reflection of your relationship and personalities. Your guests will see and appreciate the thoughtfulness and experience while it will also enhance your enjoyment of the day – your day! Brandon and Lizzy, an adventurous and fun loving couple, took the advice to heart when they hosted a Caberfae Peaks wedding in Cadillac, Michigan. Private vows, a shotski, and an after party in the pool…does it get much better?

I met Lizzy years ago when I photographed her senior photos. We reconnected and stayed in touch years later when I photographed some of her friends and waterski buddies’ weddings. When she reached out regarding her wedding photography, I was excited to be given the opportunity, and once she shared the details of the day, I was even more thrilled! A wedding in northern Michigan at a ski resort – how perfect!
Upon our arrival, it became evident that an enjoyable event awaited us! Brandon and Lizzy are blessed with a close-knit circle of friends, who came from various locations, including some from outside the country. This truly signifies the strength of their bond and the immense joy their friends felt in commemorating their special Caberfae Peaks wedding.
Lizzy and Brandon’s bond is brimming with laughter, inside jokes, and constant smiles. Their love for each other is evident, and the moment they shared their “first look,” any nerves dissipated, allowing them to simply be themselves.
Although the day started with heavy rain, Brandon and Lizzy were troopers. They were willing to brave the raindrops to capture the beauty of northern Michigan. As we were taking some portraits in front of Caberfae, guests were simultaneously arriving at the hotel. Did the guests mind the rain? No, not at all! They brought smiles and drinks as they arrived, and we couldn’t help but capture them!
The rain stopped, and the weather was perfect for a Caberfae Peaks wedding. The ceremony space featured a beautiful garden with landscaping and flowers, serving as a lovely backdrop for Brandon and Lizzy’s vows. The ceremony was well-attended, with not a single open seat, and all eyes were on the happy couple.
After the ceremony, we took a leisurely walk around Caberfae Peaks with Brandon and Lizzy. Their constant togetherness infused every moment with love and joy, resulting in remarkably beautiful photographs.
Our evening ended with a ride up the ski hill to watch the sunset. We felt bad pulling Brandon and Lizzy away from the party, but they thought it would be worth it, and it was!
We spent just under thirty minutes at the top of the ski hill, and as each minute passed, the lighting became more beautiful.
