Campus Martius Proposal

I was in downtown Detroit location for an upcoming proposal. It was a particularly cold and windy afternoon so I was happy and relieved when I finally made it back to the warmth and protection of my truck. As I unpacked my pockets, I saw a text from a new number. Tyler introduced himself as a friend of Nick and Julian, whose proposal I photographed earlier, and asked if I had any availability later that week for a Campus Martius proposal. I texted him back we could definitely make it work with a little flexibility; ironically I was shooting another Campus Martius proposal on the same day he was hoping to propose! Tyler and I hopped on a FaceTime call the next day, and with the help of Google Earth, mapped out everything. The only thing left to do for Tyler was enjoy a dinner at Ottava Via and the evening leading up to the big moment.

Right on time, Tyler was walking hand in hand with Syd, approaching the spot to propose. He paused, put his arm around Syd, and admired the Christmas lights and tree. With that, I knew he was ready to propose and raised my camera for the special moment to unfold. As their embrace began to dissolve, Tyler dug into his pocket, stepped back, and presented Syd with a ring while on one knee. Her reaction was beautiful and telling of her love for him: disbelief turned into tears of joy as she said “Yes!” to spending the rest of her life with Tyler. Once the ring was on her finger (and properly admired, of course) the tears of joy quickly turned into smiles, laughter, excitement, and a celebration…and perhaps a little sense of anxious relief from Tyler. In short, it was a perfect and memorable Campus Martius proposal.
