I have had the pleasure of photographing Sophie for several years as a performer with the Macomb Ballet Company and Ann Parsley School of Dance; however, it wasn’t until I photographed her Detroit senior pictures that I received the pleasure of knowing Sophie. You can imagine the chaos backstage during a performance: dancers running around, quick costume changes, directors with headsets coordinating lighting and music. The production is a neatly choreographed performance (pun totally intended.) Anyway, it was so nice to slow down and get to talk with Sophie in between her Detroit senior pictures.
I knew Sophie planned on taking some of her Detroit senior pictures in one of her ballet outfits. When she showed up wearing something a bit more casual, I knew the perfect spot. Sophie was a natural in front of the camera, allowing her friendly personality and natural beauty to shine through.
I absolutely adore moments like this, when we get to see the full personality of someone unfold. There is not much more beautiful than someone laughing.
After our time photographing in Detroit’s New Center and Midtown, we headed over to Wayne State’s campus to photograph Sophie in her favorite accessory: pointe shoes.
Seeing some art in the form of statues on campus, I thought it was only fitting that Sophie too was viewed as art.
Afterwards, we headed to the Detroit Public Library for another round of Detroit senior pictures.
Next, Sophie changed into a stylish black dress to finish her senior photos.
After our time at the Detroit Public Library, we headed more downtown to explore the city. Several spots perfectly complimented the look and feel of her chic outfit.
I loved the ethereal feeling this feeling yields.
Only in Detroit, several locals and pedal cars cheered Sophie during her shoot. At one point, she quite literally stopped traffic.
