Kristin + Alex’s Eastern Market Brewery Engagement Session

Years ago, in the early days of my photography career, I photographed this beautiful girl’s senior photos. The photos took place in the fall, at the peak of the autumn colors. Her hair nearly matched the palette on the trees; her bright blue eyes popped against the red and yellow leaves. The photos came out beautifully. We kept in touch via Facebook, occasionally liking the other person’s status or posted photo. She met a guy who soon seemed to be in nearly all of her photos and postings. They were smitten; he was special. It wasn’t long after that, that girl – Kristin – emailed me asking if I was available on her wedding date. Alex was the one. It was obvious early on, even from the sporadic photos online. They did everything together and supported each other’s growth. I was excited to meet him.

Knowing they were chill and loved good beer, we had our initial consultation at a brewery. I told Becky I would be back in an hour and a half. I missed dinner that night. We were having too much fun. I could see why they were drawn to each other…and I think you can too.

We started their engagement session at the Belle Isle Casino before proceeding, in perfect Kristin and Alex fashion, to their favorite Detroit brewery: Eastern Market Brewery. (If you haven’t had their Marvin Have or Elephant Juice, you are missing out.) Their dog Levi even joined us.

As the sun began to set, we headed into town and stopped at Eastern market Brewery for to cap off their engagement session. Thanks to the awesome hospitality of the place, we got the last beers of the night and had the venue practically all to ourselves.

I am not going to lie, engagement sessions can be a little intimidating. Luckily, Alex and Kristin warmed up to it pretty quickly. With the help of their favorite brews and a little extra space away from the camera, they settled in, cozied up, and enjoyed the moment.

After the Eastern market Brewery, we had time for one last shot. They wanted something that was iconic Detroit.

Their wedding will be at another Detroit gem – the Whisky Factory. I can’t wait.
