A few weeks ago, William reaching out to me with some exciting news: he was going to be proposing to his long-time girlfriend, Hannah. He spoke with such enthusiasm, you would think we too were long-time friends. Still, I was happy for him. Naturally this was a huge moment for them both and to be considered to be present was a honor. After getting a better idea of what William was looking for, I sent him a few links to locations that I thought would give him the beauty and privacy that he was looking for. He was really drawn to the idea of a Guardian Building proposal. We looked at our schedules and pencilled in a time to meet there.
Within a few minutes of meeting, William was sold. He loved the look of the historic, art deco building and the warm environment it provided. Together, we mapped out a plan to get Hannah downtown and into the building. Lexie from Floral and Flame would add a romantic touch to the proposal by creating a centerpiece for William to propose. With a plan in place, the only thing left for us to do was wait.
When the day finally came for William’s Guardian Building proposal, he was calm and relaxed. Lexie and I arrived early to get everything set up: Lexie, the candles and floral arrangement; myself, the lighting. With a few minutes to spare, Lexie hid in the back while I sat on the stairs leading up to the proposal spot, acting like I was scrolling on my phone. As William and Hannah walked up the opposing side of stairs, I followed behind and quietly documented their special moment. Needless to say, Hannah said “yes!”
It is hard to photograph in stealth mode when you are using flash, but Hannah still looked a little surprised when she realized her Guardian Building proposal was being captured.
After giving them a few minutes to enjoy the moment, we took a few more photos before their time there was up.
It was a beautiful and brisk evening in Detroit, so we stepped out for a few more pictures before they celebrated their news with dinner downtown.
