Shane and Abbi enjoyed everything Mackinac Island had to offer as the celebrated with family and friends during their Mission Point Resort wedding.
A few years ago, I was photographing an event when I bumped into Shane. It was a pleasant surprise as I didn’t know he would be in attendance. As we were catching up and comparing notes about being teachers, a beautiful woman walked up and slid her hands around his arm.
“Brian, this is Abbi” he said.
“Hi Abbi, it is nice to meet you.”
Together, we stood there and talked as I got to know Abbi a bit more. The specifics are lost to time, but I do remember seeing Shane light up in her presence and feeling like I was talking to best friends who shared everything. It was no surprise then when years later, I saw their engagement announcement. It was a surprise, however, when Shane emailed me asking if I had his date available to photograph their wedding. I was honored to even be considered. Lucky for me, I was available. Then, he dropped one last surprise: they would be having a Mission Pointe Resort wedding on Mackinac Island!
I photographed a Mission Pointe Resort wedding before and loved the results. The venue is beautiful and the character of the island creates a relaxed vibe for the wedding party and guests. I was excited to photograph a Mission Pointe Resort wedding again.

Abbi started off her day getting ready at the Lakeside Salon and Spa, located on the ground of Mission Point. It was a chill and relaxed vibe, which perfectly matched Abbi’s personality.
Once Abbi was ready, it was time for her first looks. First up was her dad.
While Abbi shared her first look with her dad, Shane was hiding nearby, waiting for his turn.
Once Shane and Abbi saw each other, they were ready to start their wedding day festivities. To start, we took a horse-drawn carriage to the southern end of the island, where we captured a taste of Mackinac as their backdrop.
After a few photos with Mighty Mac, we stopped by the Grand Hotel and found a beautiful patch of flowers that highlighted Abbi’s florals and beauty.
One of my favorite images to take are the ones where the couple’s love and personalities are on full display. Little idiosyncrasies where only they know that look, that touch, tha gesture. We captured a few of those moments on the ride back.
Soon, it was time for Shane and Abbi’s Mission Pointe Resort wedding ceremony to take place. Before the bridal party lined up, we took a few more formals as guests took their seats below.
While the day belonged to Shane and Abbi, it was made extra special by the attendance of Shane’s grandma, the matriarch of the family.
While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Shane and Abbi took a few minutes alone to soak in their Mission Pointe Resort wedding day moments.
If there is one image that captures the essence of Shane and Abbi, I think this is it.
After guests were invited indoors, it was time for speeches, dinner, and dancing. The speeches were a mix of heartfelt surprises, light hearted jabs as to why Shane is really an old man, and full out laughter.
As guests were finishing their dinner, Shane and Abbi snuck outside to catch the last of the golden hour.
With the conclusion of dinner, there was only one thing left to do…
