I love it when I meet a man with a plan. Andrew called me saying he saw some of my proposal work and wanted me to help with his proposal to his girlfriend Jan. He had a plan in place that perfectly represented Jan. She loves all things Art Deco so Andrew found the perfect ring and location for the occasion. Together, we scouted for his proposal at Detroit’s Fischer Building and found the perfect, intimate spot for their special moment.
Jan’s whole family was in on the act. Her sister made up a story about receiving an award for her science lab and even had a fake flyer to show for it. Her “award” was going to be received and celebrated at a luncheon at the Fischer Building. Jan should dress up and join. When Jan and her sister arrived, she was greeted by Andrew who escorted her up to the luncheon…
As Jan arrived, she had an inkling that something was happening. Once she saw Andrew take a knee, her intuition was correct and her reaction was priceless.
As soon as the proposal was over, she realized all the moving parts that got her there. She was a good sport about it. Andrew had some explaining to do and some stories to tell; he put a lot of thought into his proposal at Detroit’s Fischer Building.
After Andrew’s proposal at Detroit’s Fischer Building, we decided to stay there and take a few engagement photos to celebrate the momentous occasion.
Andrew had a few more surprises for Jan, but first we needed to kill a little time so we stopped at the beautiful grounds of the DIA for some photos.
If you follow my Instagram account, you can guess what prompt was used to get this smile 😉
I love photos that truly connect with the personality of the person. The tenderness of Jan, a loving kindergarten teacher, is on full display.
At the end of our session, I recommended to Jan and Andrew that they take a few minutes to sit outside of the DIA and take it all in. I was with them since the proposal itself and they have not had any truly private time. In reality, I needed a few minute had start to head over to Bakersfield, where their families were waiting to celebrate their proposal at Detroit’s Fischer Building. Needless to say, Jan was surprised yet again.
