Surprise Proposal at Cranbrook

When Brody first reached out to us about planning his surprise proposal at Cranbrook to Madeline, his excitement was impossible to miss. The two had been together for seven years, high school sweethearts who had grown up together and were ready to begin their next chapter. Brody wanted the moment to feel intimate and surrounded by greenery, while still leaving room for family to join in the celebration afterward.

After talking through a few possibilities, we landed on the beautiful grounds of Cranbrook. When we met with Brody ahead of the proposal, we walked the property together, searching for the perfect setting. He ultimately chose a tucked-away space framed by a tunnel of trees, a beautiful fountain, and just enough privacy to make the moment feel like it belonged entirely to them. During that planning meeting, Brody also shared one important detail: Madeline did not like surprises. Keeping the proposal secret was becoming increasingly difficult, but Brody was determined to pull it off.

Fast forward to Saturday, August 15. Brody and Madeline arrived at Cranbrook, and we were ready. I positioned myself to capture Madeline’s reaction while Brian documented the proposal itself, and her reaction did not disappoint.  We watched every emotion unfold: confusion, realization, shock, exuberance, tears, laughter, and even jumping up and down. It was the kind of genuine, completely unfiltered reaction every proposal photographer hopes to capture.

Then came the family. Madeline ran straight into her sisters’ arms, screaming and celebrating, while Brody shared in the hugs, tears, and excitement. After some family photos, the two of them wandered the grounds together, soaking in the reality of what had just happened. Champagne showers, laughter, and more joyful moments followed.

For two high school sweethearts who had spent seven years building a life together, their surprise proposal at Cranbrook was the perfect beginning to whatever comes next, and a lifetime of beautiful memories.
