With the help of some family members, Navjot planned a surprise WSU proposal for his girlfriend Harveen.
Navjot sent me a text, ironically, as I was location scouting with another gentleman for his proposal. As I saw the nature of the text, I snickered. How could I be this lucky? I thought to myself. Not only is photographing a proposal my favorite type of shoot, but this month has been my busiest month of proposals ever! When I got back to my truck, I responded to Navjot and was quick to set up a time with him to location scout for his proposal.
Each proposal is planned out to incorporate beauty, meaning, and memories into it. Navjot’s original idea was to propose with the Detroit skyline in the background, as that is where he calls both work and home. However, the more we discussed his vision for the proposal, the more a WSU proposal made sense. Navjot went to Wayne State University. Harveen, coming from London, had never seen it. In fact, this was her first time in Detroit. Having shown Najvot some of my favorite places on campus, he liked the intimacy that the College of Education could provide and decided it was the perfect spot for his WSU proposal.
When I arrived on campus, Navjot’s brother and Harveen’s sister were already there setting up a little station for Navjot’s WSU proposal. The plan was for Navjot to give Harveen a tour of the campus, round the corner, and guide Harveen into position. Navjot couldn’t contain his excitement as he led Harveen to the spot. Clearly, she knew what was transpiring, but Navjot’s lengthy and heartfelt speech to her only made the moment more sentimental. After several minutes, Navjot proposed and asked Harveen for her hand in marriage. It was the easiest “yes” of her life.
After a little celebrating, members of their family came out from their hiding spots and showered Navjot and Harveen with love and confetti. In a touching moment, Harveen paused to wipe away her father’s tears. Afterwards, we photographed Navjot and Harveen to commemorate their special WSU proposal.
